The new SL MK II has upgrades to enhance both the musical performance, and also to offer greater value at the S Series price point. A new tapered Aluminum cantilever with increased rigidity offers a remarkable improvement in transferring groove modulation from the vinyl record to the cartridge generator. The S Series Mk II indeed features many higher specified parts, advanced materials, and unique technical processes, drawn from Hana’s higher-priced elite cartridge models, furthering the Hana “brilliant and gorgeous” sound.
Critical parts, including the Yoke, Pole-pieces, and gold Terminal pins are cryogenically treated for a more natural sound. An improved non-resonant body shape, modeled after the Hana M Series, is damped with a matte Soft Feel Black elastomeric resin paint, and features a brass top cap plus integral threaded mounting of cartridge. The heavier Mk II cartridge offers better coupling, improving bass and dynamics; and with expanded compatibility to a wider range of tonearms. The SL MK II generator, is as found in the Umami Blue and ML; incorporating an Alnico magnet and cross-coil design, using high purity 30-micron copper wire with an 8Ω impedance, for improved signal to noise, and reduction of moving mass. These improved design features offer higher resolution and traceability, optimizing performance for a broader range of phono stages.

Hana S Series Reviews MKII
The original Hana SL cartridge is a versatile performer that tracks music well and effectively conveys it. It’s a popular choice at its price point. How does it compare to the new SL MK II? The difference is stark. In every aspect, the Hana SL MK II outperforms the original SL, offering a larger soundstage, better macro and micro dynamics, more openness on the top end, retrieval of more information, and better separation of instruments. In my listening notes, I equated the difference in sound quality was similar to the difference between using worn-out tubes and installing new ones. The MK II outshone the MK I from the first track.
….. the new Hana SL MK II is a quantum leap in performance in every aspect of sound. This is a no-brainer recommendation for your consideration in this price range.
