The new Hana EL MkII cartridge has evolved from the original EL, combining the essential musicality of the original E Series, but now with numerous proven advancements and design features; as found on the more expensive M Series and Umami Series cartridges. Sporting a synthetic Elliptical diamond stylus, fitted to a high rigidity aluminium cantilever with cross-shaped armature, the updated coil winding now offers an 8-ohm impedance, creating a better interface with moving coil (MC) phono-stages. The composite low resonance plastic body now sports integral threaded inserts, and a damping brass cap for resonance damping.
This competitively priced Low output moving coil cartridge offers great quality sound referenced against similar priced cartridges. The EL (Elliptical Low output) offers 0.4mv/1KHz output.

The high output version offers compatibility with all moving magnet (MM) phono-stages, and has a sound quality very similar to its Low output EL MkII stable mate. Sporting a synthetic Elliptical diamond stylus, fitted to a high rigidity aluminium cantilever with cross-shaped armature, within a composite low resonance plastic body now sporting integral threaded inserts, and a damping brass cap for resonance damping.

The Audiophile Man
My first impressions of the EH was that it was a very smooth, easy going, performer. Turning to more dynamic fare, I played a recently re-issued Joy Division album, Substance and played the aggressive song, ‘Leaders of Men’, which was introduced by a rather insistent bass guitar. Lead vocals were articulated well via the EH. There was a lot of passion and energy infused into this area which could have invited slurring and blurring at times but the EH successfully resisted any such urge. More than that, the texture of the vocal delivery added to the emotive presentation which helped the ear to engage with the motive power of the music.
Good: musical engagement, romantic mids, bass, value for money
Bad: nothing at the price
